Holiday Happenings

Posted on November 17, 2009. Filed under: All Ages, Event |

When I was young, a big event this time of year was to make the drive to Carver, Massachusetts to go to Edaville Railroad’s Festival of Lights. It was a time of singing carols in the car, hot chocolate in the cold, an old fashioned train ride, and the magic of all the lights.

However, in 1991, it closed due to dwindling profits and our annual trip ceased. We comforted ourselves by driving around neighborhoods looking at the lights on houses, but it was not the same. Others had the same opinion and after several years, and various attempts to reopen, Edaville resumed operations in 1999. It came under new ownership in 2003 and the Festival of Lights burned brightly once again!
In addition to the train ride, and the thousands of lights, there are rides for adults and kids (mostly kids), and a Santa’s Village. It is open on the weekends (Friday-Sunday) from November 13, 2009 through January 3rd, 2009. Tickets are around $18 (though there are discounts around) and kids under 2yrs go free. It includes the train ride, as well as all the other rides and Santa’s Village.
So put on the hat and mittens, pack snacks, and drive to Carver, MA for a great time that will get you in the holiday spirit.
